December 17 2014: Broadcast Music, Inc. has announced that the estate of global superstar Michael Jackson has renewed its agreement with BMI for representation of the public performances of his music catalog.
Jackson spent nearly all of his 50 years creating starting with his family band Jackson 5 that turned into an indescribable solo career. The singer has generated estimated cumulative album sales in excess of 1 billion and his timeless repertoire continues to impact every facet of the music industry including film and television.
“We are pleased to announce our continued representation of Michael’s extraordinary and vast catalogue,” BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill said in a statement. “Since 1976, we’ve had the privilege of licensing his works and we’re honored to continue this relationship with his estate.”
Rightfully considered the greatest entertainer of all time, Jackson used his innate musical talent to evoke raw and honest emotion. With his 13 GRAMMY Awards, 26 American Music Awards, 21 BMI Pop Awards and his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Jackson’s numerous accolades surpasses comparison. Posthumous projects highlighting Jackson’s genius consist of two albums, Michael and Xscape; the latter featured “Love Never Felt So Good” a pop-R&B hit, included below, that has been named one of the best recordings of 2014. Jackson’s postmortem success only further supports his continuing reign as the King of Pop.
In addition to the Jackson estate renewal, BMI announced that Taylor Swift, P!nk and Maroon 5 will all be continuing partnerships with the organization.
