Synch Song of the Week: Labrinth's "Let It Be"

Posted by

This week’s Synch Song comes from Brit producer-turned-talent, Labrinth. You might know him from his hit “Beneath Your Beautiful” featuring Emeli Sandé’s killer pipes, or “Earthquake” featuring another English favorite, Tinie Tempah, but it’s his track “Let It Be” that we’re hooked on.

The tune strikes us as a theme song for a modern day spy; it’s a little bit edgy, a little bit futuristic, a tad dangerous and just a hint soulful, but most of all it’s sexy. The 70s synth and horns even seem to borrow directly from Bond’s iconic theme, and the guitar riffs give it a dirty and gritty feel, yet the track's soulful vocals round out its smoothness.

Lyrically it’s also appropriate for modern spy thrillers. Immediately the new British spy feature Kingsman comes to mind, as we’re actually a little miffed this song didn't accompany Taron Egerton’s “Eggsy” in the film.

There’s a point where Egerton’s character experiences a dramatic shift, and would warrant a theme song encompassing all of the characteristics of Labrinth’s “Let It Be.” However, we also think parts of the tune could be employed to advertise anything from trainers to soda, but we feel very strongly that “Let It Be” deserves the full feature only film can provide.

You can catch Labrinth in NY at the upcoming Governors Ball, or at any of the usual stops in a full British festival circuit this summer! You can also hear more of this brilliant artist on our Spotify playlists or on SoundCloud!
