The Impact of Music Supervision: "Call Me By Your Name" Soundtrack Boosts the Psychedelic Furs

Posted by

We're always looking out for the power of synch licensing here at MusicSupervision101. The latest confirmation came in the form of a Keith Caulfield article in Billboard reporting on the sudden leap that the classic Psychedlic Furs track "Love My Way" just took via the soundtrack of the new movie Call Me By Your Name.

The romantic coming-of-age drama starring Armie Hammer has been a critical hit so far. Music supervision was by the massively experienced Robin Urdang (see her big IMDB credit list here). Director Luca Guadagnino’s choice of the Furs' 1982 track has given this intense song new life -- according to Caulfield, it's total 177,000 on-demand (audio and video) streams, plus its 131,000 on-demand audio streams, were both it's highest weekly sums since Nielsen has been tracking streaming data in 2005.

Having sonic visionaries like Sufjan Stevens, John Adams, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Giorgio Moroder + Joe Esposito, and more on the soundtrack add to what is clearly a diverse soundtrack.

See what synch can do? The numbers don't just back up that it's a great song, but that the director’s vision nailed the on-screen pairing for a powerful audience response.
